Ugly Ads

We both know that paying advertisers have their own agenda when it comes to which ads they want to show on your website. Let's assume that an advertiser agrees to your rates and display conditions. He submits an ad that you do not like. Should you accept his money—and put the ad into your ad pool?

First, you need to understand why you don't like the ad. If the ad content is not suitable for your target audience, you should refuse the ad. Having such an ad in your ad pool will only annoy your target audience. Relevant advertisers will not look so favorably on your website as a place for putting their marketing message.

But if the ad is, in your opinion, not suitable visually, DVO DVOA has some features that will allow you to accept both the ugly ad and the advertiser's money.

First, the frequency you have chosen won't allow the ugly ad to occupy the ad space too frequently. For example, if the frequency is set at 1/25, the ugly ad will not dominate the ad show. Having one or two ugly ads at a low frequency will not detract from your website.

Second, you can use your unsold ad spots to provide graphics that artistically counter the ugly ads. Having contrasting ads will help make the ugly ad look less ugly.

Third, two different advertisers with ugly ads might complement each other—and you get paid well for both ad spots.

With DVO DVOA, you have the flexibility to create a very dynamic rotation of ads. With this rotation, your ad space will be better noticed—and be of more value to advertisers.

P.S. If you are currently using one of the current online DVOA brokers, please run through your website to see what kind of ads show up. Do they have suitable content for your website? Do they have a nice visual appearance that works with your website? Are ugly ads showing up far too frequently?
