Advisors

The high ring should appoint at least three advisors. Advisors will have freedom to interact anywhere in the Consensus organization, including the management company.

Advisors cannot simultaneously serve as an advisor and on the low/high rings. If elected or appointed to a new position, the member must choose only one.

Advisors have a dual purpose. The more important purpose is to ensure the consultative culture is maintained throughout Consensus. To do this, advisors shall have unrestricted access to all online forms within Consensus—including in-camera sessions of the high ring. Advisors should monitor discussions and provide guidance and direction towards better consultation.

Advisors are free to offer their opinions on issues facing Consensus. However, this privilege should be a secondary purpose—and perhaps used sparingly.

And it should be understood that wherever an advisor engages in Consensus, he has no vote in either the the low ring committees or the high ring . By not having any voting power, the adviser is more likely to be seen as a neutral influencer to enhance the democratic process rather than working towards a certain agenda.

Advisors should have a term of about three years. The high ring is not obligated to re-appoint the advisor at the end of this term.

Because the term of office for an advisor is longer, there should be a mechanism to remove an advisor. However such an action should require a substantial majority of the high ring and a certain mechanism within the low ring. Details to this “impeachment” need to be vetted further.
