Voting in Consensus

Once a year, all members of Consensus will be asked to vote for members to the “low ring.” However, the traditional criteria voters often use in western democracy to select their leaders will have to be discarded. The voters should not vote for someone who:

  1. seems to be popular
  2. has a great image
  3. has a mandate the voter prefers
  4. seems to be campaigning for a high position in Consensus

Rather, the voter should observe and participate in the various discussion groups within Consensus to find members with these traits:

  1. Treats other members civilly in the discussions
  2. Ensures other members get a fair chance to express their viewpoints
  3. Sees several alternatives to the various issues
  4. Sees the pros and cons behind each alternative
  5. Can change his/her position as new facts and perspectives are presented
  6. Allows decisions to be carried through their natural conclusions with neither opposition nor apologetic support

As a Consensus member interacts with his/her supporters online, that member will see some supporters with these favorable traits, thus worthy of being voted into the low ring.
